A Nantucket 4th!
Spending the holiday on Nantucket is truly a treat! They've spread out the fun the past couple of years, with the Firecracker 5K on one day, the fireworks the next and the Main Street activities on the actual holiday.
I started the day with a cross island bike ride. I cycled to Sconset, the eastern end, from our mid-island home and then back across the island to Madaket, the western end. I love the early morning quiet of the island on the weekends and holidays!
Riley was off to work bright and early, but the rest of us cleaned up and headed downtown to Main Street for the 4th festivities. There was the bike decorating competition, pie eating, watermelon eating, face painting and games! All of this leads up to the annual water fight!
Once the fire trucks roll in you need to decide if you're going to stay on the street and get drenched by the fire hoses, water balloons and water guns.
Some of us sought out shelter to watch the fun...
while others got right out there and had a blast!
Thankfully it was a gorgeous day and it felt great!
We made our way back to our car and got ready for a day at the beach!
The summer crew enjoyed the surf...
and some unexpected whale watching!
We headed home for some stuffed clams...
burgers, corn and waffle fries!
For dessert, we had a decorate your own cupcake bar!
Hope you had a fabulous 4th too!
