Menu Monday and Weekend Scenes

Hello Monday!  It was another beautiful summer weekend here and we took full advantage!  Saturday we were off to Miacomet Beach on the southern shore...
We enjoyed dinner at a family favorite Saturday evening, Fifty-Six Union...
The restaurant has a back patio great for afternoon cocktails and dining in the summer months!
Fifty-Six Union is a family business that is chef owned and operated so it consistently delivers excellent food and service!
A boy and his chowder...this kids loves his chowder!
I love that you can take a break between courses and enjoy their garden!
I enjoyed the Seared Scallops with Isreali Cous Cous and Broccolini...
Mr. PS and Riley opted for the Fifty-Six Burger...
Reagan enjoyed the housemade Vegetarian Ravioli...
For dessert I ordered my favorite, the 56 Butterscotch Brownie.  I got hooked on this in 2010 and thankfully no one else in the family likes coconut so I had it all to myself!
Mr. PS had the Red, White & Blue Shortcake...
The big kids loved the Chipwich with Salted Caramel Chocolate Truffle Gelato!
I did my usual Sunday morning bike ride out to Sconset.  We went to mass in town and came home for lunch. It was a bit overcast and cool so Sunday afternoon we drove out to Sconset and stopped at Low Beach and Sankaty Head...
We ended off the weekend with Bartlett's Farm Arugula & Tomato Caprese...
and some expertly grilled tenderloin steaks!
How was your weekend?

Here's what's cooking this week...

Monday- Annual take-out Fusaro's dinner w/ Tickled Pink Talk & kids
Tuesday- Stacked Vegetable Enchiladas
Wednesday- One Pan Greek Chicken
Thursday- Impossibly Easy Vegetable Pie & Salad

Nantucket Restaurant Rundown

I put this list together earlier this summer for two families who will be visiting the island soon and thought I would share it.  This is by no means a complete list of restaurants, but rather ones that we are comfortable recommending.

Very casual, bring the kids...

Fusaro's (mid-island, Old South Road, no reservations)
Millie’s (in Madaket, west end of island, no reservations, great for sunset, indoor and outdoor seating)
The Jetties (at Jetties Beach, all outdoor seating, mostly covered, no reservations)
The Brotherhood of Thieves (Broad Street, just up the street from Steamship ferry, no reservations)

Rose & Crown (South Water Street, pub fare)
Kitty Murtagh’s (Irish Pub, no reservations)
Beachside Bistro (at Summer House in Sconset, east end of island)

Crosswinds (at the airport, watch the planes land and take-off)

Nice, but kid-friendly...

Atlas BBQ & Fish House (mid-island, Pleasant Street)

The Breeze at the Nantucket Hotel (just up Easton Street from Brant Point)
Brant Point Grill (at White Elephant)

Centre Street Bistro (Centre Street, BYOB)
Queequeg's & Town (back to back, same owner, great for outdoor dining, brunch daily)
Fifty-Six Union (Union Street, edge of town, back patio great for kids)

Island Kitchen (Chin's Way, mid-island)
Slip 14 (Old South Wharf)
Ventuno (Federal Street in town)
SeaGrille (mid-island, Sparks Avenue near Stop & Shop)

Great for date night without kids…

American Seasons (Centre Street, recently changed chef/ownership, on OpenTable)

The Proprietors (India Street, on OpenTable)
Dune (Broad Street, on OpenTable)
Languedoc Bistro (Broad Street, Sunday brunch)
Boarding House (Federal Street, great patio, on OpenTable, weekend brunch)
The Pearl (one my favorites, Federal Street)
Galley Beach (at Cliffside Beach Club)
Cru (end of Straight Wharf, on OpenTable, serves lunch)
LoLa 41 (South Beach Street, near Children’s Beach, great sushi)
Toppers (at The Wauwinet, beautiful deck, on OpenTable, weekend brunch)
Ships Inn (Fair Street in town, hidden gem, on OpenTable)
Chanticleer (in Sconset, a classic, serves lunch)
The Club Car (old school, classic, Main Street, light lunch in bar)
Straight Wharf Restaurant (on Straight Wharf, bar seating area and patio have a lighter more affordable menu)
Oran Mor (South Beach Street, on OpenTable)

Have you tried any of these?  Any other recommendations?

Our Nantucket...continued

Last week I shared a peek at the first floor of our Nantucket condo/townhome.  I'm back with the second and third floors today.  Let's head upstairs...
And up a few more stairs...
Our master bedroom is just large enough to fit our queen bed and nightstand.  I have a Lilly coverlet and shams that I scored on sale from Garnet Hill before we bought this place.  I swap it out for a Missoni for Target duvet and shams in the fall.
Mr. PS and I share a dresser and are fortunate to have a nice walk-in closet!
Our master bathroom...
Next-door is our guest room, next year our oldest will use this space...
Head down the hall and you'll find the kids' and guest bathroom...
One more set of stairs to go!
I refer to the third floor as "kids kingdom", the three kids share this large space.  Not ideal, but space is at a premium on this island and we're not immune to it!
Rowan has a crib here, thankfully passed on to us by friends.  Her quilt was from our original nursery bedding circa 2001 and the little adirondack chair was a shower gift from that same year!
We had our neighbor, a cabinet maker and craftsman, make the built-in shelves around the window and build cubbies for the kids' closet which avoided having to invest in dressers.
So that's our Nantucket and we love it!  We know how fortunate we are to have this home, I am thankful for everyday that we have on this beautiful island.  It's difficult to explain if you've never been, but trust me that Nantucket is a special place...30 miles out to sea.

Menu Monday and Weekend Scenes

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a wonderful summer weekend!  After last weekend's jam packed schedule, we were delighted to kick back and relax a bit more this past weekend!

We hit a north shore beach on Friday before Mr. PS arrived on Island.  One of the things I like best about Nantucket is that there are so many beaches that you can always find one that's not too crowded.
The kids love to come home from the beach and jump in the pool at our complex...
We cleaned up, picked up a Lola Burger order to-go, grabbed Mr. PS off the ferry and hit the beach for a sunset picnic at Steps Beach.
This was always our "last night on Nantucket" tradition when we rented a house.   It's such a beautiful peaceful spot, you're reminded to be thankful for this little island!
A throwback to our 2010 sunset beach picnic...I miss these sweet faces!
Picture perfect!
I went for a run on Saturday morning and then we packed up lunch and hit Miacomet Beach.  The weather wasn't great so we almost had the beach to ourselves.  Saturday evening we cleaned up and tried a new restaurant, Atlas BBQ & Fish House, with friends.
We started with a cocktail at the bar...their "Summer in Provence" with muddled peaches, elderflower liquor and rose was so refreshing!  The group tried a variety of dishes and all were delicious and very generous portions!
I got out and did my usual Sunday morning bike ride to the eastern end of the island and then we hit 11:30am mass.  Again, not a great beach day, but we went for it anyway!
Mr. PS left last night and of course today was a true beach day with temps nearing 90! So I hit the beach with the kids...

Here's what's cooking this week...

Monday- Zucchini and Squash Homemade Mac n' Cheese
Tuesday- Take out Sushi by Yoshi
Wednesday- Bay Scallop Chowder and Salad
Thursday- Chicken and Waffles (we've been obsessed with this dish and are making our own version)
Friday- Pork Carnitas and Yellow Rice
Saturday- out with kids at Fifty-Six Union
Sunday- something on the grill!

Have a great week!
