Piling on the Miles

I'll be piling on the miles during the month of November with Run Eat Repeat!  Monica has organized an online challenge to move more from November 1st-28th.  It's easy to register, plug in your name, email and pick a goal for the month! Mad for Talbots Plaid

I haven't shopped Talbots in a long time, I think I went into mourning when the Massachusetts retailer shut down their children's line and closed Talbots Kids.

I still receive their catalogs and once and a while take a peek at them.  I'm glad I looked at their winter catalog, lots of cute PLAID pieces!

Menu Monday and Weekend Scenes

Happy Monday!  Where did the weekend go?  I've already filled you in on our Friday afternoon fun at Mr. PS's office so we're on to Saturday...

I ran a 10K Saturday morning and much to my surprise won my age division!  I've been running a lot this fall so I think my training is paying off.  I've got a few more races lined up in November including another half marathon, a 5K and a 5 miler.

Saturday evening we were off to the Assumption College President's Council Dinner in Worcester at Mechanics Hall.  I tried out my new Julie Lopez Carli Shoes.  I was hopeful, but these still hurt by the end of the night!
 The event was open seating with culinary stations throughout the room.
 We were so thrilled to see and catch up with the Assumptionist Father that married us 18 years ago!

Riley worked his school's fall open house on Sunday morning and then we took Reagan to another grades 7-12 school open house.  She will apply to two schools for 7th grade and I suspect will need to make a decision!

Halloween Fun!

Mr. PS's company has always done a great job of making their employee's spouses/significant others and children feel welcome.  Every Halloween the children are invited in for trick-or-treating and festivities!

As our big kids got older we took a break from the festivities, but it was fun to bring Rowan yesterday!  We checked in and Rowan received a trick-or-treat pail...
Of course we brought the big kids too!

 Someone thoroughly enjoyed herself!
And to think that this was just a warm up for next weekend!

What's Cooking Wednesday

Cranberry Sauce Almond Loaf

I had some leftover homemade cranberry sauce from our turkey dinner on Sunday night.  I used some to make the kids Thanksgiving sandwiches on Monday, but I still had a lot leftover.  This was the perfect way to use it up!

I opted to use a little honey as my sweetener since the cranberry sauce is fairly sweet itself.  You could also use agave or sugar, of course.
Ingredients

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup cranberry sauce
1/2 cup almond butter
3/4 cup almond milk (I used unsweetened vanilla)
1/2 cup honey (or agave)
1/2 cup chopped raw almonds (optional)
2 tbsp. ground flax (optional)
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 tspn. vanilla
1/2 tspn. baking soda

Directions

1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a loaf pan with baking spray.

2.  In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients...flour, flax, cinnamon and baking soda.  Set aside.

3.  In a small bowl, combine wet ingredients...almond milk, almond butter, honey and vanilla.

4.  Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until batter forms.  Fold in cranberry sauce and add almonds if desired.

5.  Pour into loaf pan and bake 45-50 minutes.  Allow to cool in pan.

So good!  Just had a slice for breakfast with some fresh fruit and plain Greek yogurt.  Have a wonderful day!

Tuesday Musings

Yes, more musings!

First, tomorrow is...
Plan accordingly, I'm not a cheesecake baker so I grabbed a pumpkin swirl cheesecake at Stop & Shop today.

On the topic of pumpkin...we had the most delicious locally made pumpkin ravioli for dinner last night.  I made a brown butter garlic sage sauce for it and served it with mixed greens.  The meal received rave reviews from my panel of judges!

Vineyard Vines is offering an extra 30% off sale styles with code SAIL2015.  I'm not sure how long the extra discount will last, but I do know that inventory is selling quickly!  I grabbed a few items for Christmas and then received an email that a couple were out of stock.

Ame & Lulu is offering an extra 25% off sale items through 10/27 with code FALL25.  I grabbed the Weekend Duffel in Villa for Reagan last month and she loves it!  She used it for our New Hampshire and Nantucket weekends and it really fit everything she needed!

Finally, a quick update on my not so pretty feet.  Remember this post?  I went to see my foot specialist/orthopaedic surgeon last week who did not recommend bunion surgery for me.  He felt that it could potentially limit my ability to run comfortably and that with my flat feet there is a high liklihood of my bunions returning.  He recommended a few products to help me manage the discomfort including a shoe stretcher...can't wait to give that a go!

In the meantime,  I stumbled upon Julie Lopez Shoes.  They are made specifically for bunion sufferers!  Yay!  I ordered a pair of Emma heels in black patent and am hopeful they may ease my pain through the holiday social season!  Aside from the shoes, I was also thrilled to receive $50 off with the code JACKIE50!  They should arrive on Thursday and I'm going to give them a test ride on Saturday night...stay tuned.  If they feel good I may be buying more.

Menu Monday and Weekend Scenes

Soooo we haven't been having the best luck lately.  Last weekend a dead car battery and a leaky second floor bathroom.  This weekend my new car was rear ended while we were traveling on 95 north.  Fortunately no one was injured and my car wasn't badly damaged.  We felt badly for the guys from the Brown University men's rowing team who were on their way to cheer on friends at the Head of the Charles when they got hit and then hit us...their 2002 Passat wasn't looking too good!  The gentleman that caused the accident was driving with a suspended license and no insurance.  His vehicle was towed away!

Aside from that little mishap, we enjoyed our weekend!  Here are a few highlights...

We hit the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday, it was bit windy and cool, but the sun helped warm the air.
We were invited to the Bank of New York Mellon hospitality tent, but a the last minute they decided not to admit children!  Boo!
The kids were fine with that and grabbed some chowder bread bowls at a food stand, I however, may have gone into the tent to grab a salad for lunch! 
There are always lots of vendors and fun things to do aside from watching the races.  I also may have enjoyed some Teddie Peanut Butter...my favorite!
We pit stopped at home before heading out to dinner.
 We hit our favorite Italian restaurant in Providence, Pane E Vino to celebrate National Pasta Day!
 I ordered the housemade squid ink linguine fra diavolo with lobster...heavenly!
 Dessert is always a hit their too!  Gelato and cannoli for the girls...
 Tiramisu for Mr. PS...
Sunday after our accident, we hit an open house for a 7-12 school for Reagan and stopped by Whole Foods on the way home and picked up the makings of a turkey dinner.  I brought home fresh cranberries from Nantucket last weekend so that's what inspired us! Mr. PS lit a fire and we enjoyed a late dinner after a crazy day!

Saturday Musings

This little person loves to get up early ever since we came home from Nantucket at the end of August. Yesterday morning she decided to do some reading.  Those Richard Scary books were my favorite too when I was little!

I made a delicious Vega One spinach and apple smoothie this morning after my workout! Here's what I threw in...

2 cups spinach
1 small apple, cut with peel on
2 stalks celery
1/2 scoop Vega One natural flavor
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup water
1 cup ice

We'll be hitting the Head of the Charles Regatta later today, the weather is on the coolish side, but with no rain forecasted it should be perfect!
